A Sense of Wonder…

“Keep your sense of wonder about the world, and that wonder will lead you towards your passion.”   I was talking with one of my children the other day and the topic of “finding your passion” came up.  “I don’t know what my passion is,” he said to me somewhat defeatedly. “That’s okay,” I responded.  “You’re only 19; there are people who are 70 who still don’t know what their passion is.” I was lucky in that when I was 19, I knew exactly what it is that I wanted to do.  I knew from a very early age that […]

It’s the Small Things…

It’s the Small Things… I absolutely love my morning cappuccino.  For me, there is nothing better than hearing the steam from my cappuccino machine as I am rising in the early morning to start my day.  It got me to thinking about the small things in life that I love so much; so often we fret over the “big” things in life that the “small” things really do take on a seemingly insignificant quality.  Of course, this is only because of our state of mind.  In truth, I have come to realize that if we only shift our perception away

The Best Day Possible…

A family friend of mine, Cedric, died in his sleep a couple of days ago.  He was 45 and much too young to die.  Cedric was a surrogate uncle to my children and always acted as a role model to my kids in the most influential and subtle way.  He never really verbally coached a lesson; instead, he illustrated the things he taught simply by “doing” the actions other people only talk about.  He was one of the kindest and most positive people you would ever want to encounter. Anytime someone dies at such a young age it can be

The Maharshi

Atman is a Sanskrit word, defined in simple terms as an individual’s inner self, spirit or soul. The concept of Atman as the true self is considered to be the first principle of Hindu philosophy, particularly according to the Vedanta tradition.  Dualistic schools such as Dvaita Vedanta believe that Atman is distinct from Brahman (universal principle), whereas non-dualistic schools such as Advaita Vedanta teach that Atman and Brahman are one and the same, contained within one another. In such traditions, liberation from suffering can only be attained when an individual realizes that Atman and Brahman are identical. The Maharshi “Who am I?” the Maharshi pressed me to
