Song of the Cicada

Song of the Cicada

The morning arrived early; we had a busy day ahead.  Adi and I got up before 5 am because we are heading to Austin today for the premiere of her uncle’s film, Song of the Cicada, at the Austin Film Festival (more on this in a bit).  I had an hour to do my Sadhana before we departed the house to pick up a Sprinter Van that we rented to take Adi’s entire family south to Austin for a three-hour drive. I did my practice inside today because the ground is still wet outside from the rain from the last […]

The Grace of Shuniya

The following is an excerpt from my new book:   Memoirs of a Rennaissance Man: Purifying the Mind, Body, and Spirit…and the 40 Days That Follow… An Aspirant’s Account The Grace of Shuniya The crisp Texas weather continues.  During my practice today I consciously brought my awareness to the state of Shuniya (shoo-nee- yuh).  In essence, this is where we bring our mind to a place of “zero”.  In Kundalini Yoga, the goal of Shuniya is to assist you in improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and health, enhancing your self-esteem and self-confidence and enabling you to develop healthy

The Simple Things That Make Life Enchanting Adi and I have been talking a lot lately about the wonders of embracing simplicity.  We awoke early today and were out the door to our favorite coffeeshop by 6:30 am.  Quite a few mornings, Adi and I go to the Flying Squirrel to grab a morning cup of coffee and to do some work. Oftentimes, this is where I do my writing. We discovered this shop in 2021 after we returned from a long stint in Costa Rica.  We went to Costa Rica after thinking we may want to move there; we

Savannah, Georgia, On My Mind…

Savannah has an intrinsic charm to her.  There is an underlying ghostliness to the city that gives birth to artistic expression.  It’s difficult to put a finger on what exactly it is; maybe it’s the moss dripping from the trees making it appear like the trees are weeping; maybe it’s the cobblestone streets that feels so much like Paris that I was searching about for the Metro; or maybe it’s the rich history that waits patiently for someone to properly capture its opaque beauty—nonetheless, Savannah is a gem.Adi and I are currently traveling the coastal south on a work trip

It’s the Small Things…

It’s the Small Things… I absolutely love my morning cappuccino.  For me, there is nothing better than hearing the steam from my cappuccino machine as I am rising in the early morning to start my day.  It got me to thinking about the small things in life that I love so much; so often we fret over the “big” things in life that the “small” things really do take on a seemingly insignificant quality.  Of course, this is only because of our state of mind.  In truth, I have come to realize that if we only shift our perception away
