Live Like a King

My brother has been in my dreams quite a bit lately.  I feel like he is speaking to me while I sleep.  It feels as if he is trying to get my attention to be some sort of a surrogate for him for his grandsons (he has two: Cullen, 3, and Crosby, 9 months).  He left them at the much too early age of 56 and never got to experience watching them grow into adulthood; he was to be known as G Daddy.  The boys would never really ever get to call him this.  Their paternal grandfather passed away as […]

Oh, My Gato!

Our annual winter storm has hit Texas.  In northern states, this would be called the start of spring, but in the south, when one inch of snow blankets our major cities this is a cause for schools, government agencies and businesses to shutter their doors for the day so that everyone can stay home to enjoy our once-a-year snow day.  Adi and I knew “the storm” was coming, and she suggested we go to Galveston to spend the week with her parents in one of the two family homes.  Galveston wouldn’t get snow, but it would be colder than usual.

Pure Life

I stopped writing earlier this year.  It wasn’t intended; it just naturally materialized.  My passion for writing abated and I found I had nothing that I wanted to share with anyone.  For that matter, I didn’t think I knew anything that was worth sharing. Que será, será, to the year 2021.  Whatever will be will be.  This became my mantra for the last couple of years.  All the answers that I thought I knew turned out not to be true.  Everything I believed to be so, in fact, turned out to be years of programming that hadn’t served my greatest

The Majestic Rio Machuca

There is a mystical river that runs through the rainforest above San Mateo in Costa Rica; a spiritual portal that whispers to those that are silent long enough to hear her call.  To say that this river is enchanting is an understatement which is a malfeasance to her deific beauty.  The river is called Rio Machuca, but that matters not; sometimes placing a label upon something tends to limit the majesty that this river emotes. The first time I witnessed this magnificent tributary was when our friend, Monica, walked Adi and me through the rainforest to experience the wonderment of

The Magnificence of the Tico Way

Howler Monkeys growl—it’s a low guttural roar that makes it feel like there is a beast in the jungle just waiting to pounce on the next unsuspecting, innocent person that makes their way into the trees and shrubs that dot the lush land.  This is Costa Rica.  The mornings start early here; 5 am is the sun’s call time while it punches out for the day around 6 pm; 13 hours to carry out whatever needs natural light to be accomplished.  If a person requires an alarm to rise at 5 am, the Howler Monkeys are a perfectly suitable replacement
