Costa Rica Calling (Part 2): Spectacular Beauty Awaits

Costa Rica calls…In the summer of 2011, I felt my life imploding, mostly on an emotional level.  The foundation of my marriage was crumbling and intuitively we both knew that it was coming to an end.  It’s never easy ending a marriage; instinctively we may have searched for the culprit or wanted to place blame on one or the other, but we knew things just weren’t working.  It makes it especially difficult when there are two young children involved.  My wife (at the time) and I tried to make things as friendly as possible for the kids while the inevitable […]

Costa Rica Calling (Part One)…

Costa Rica calling…she has always called to me.  Although I have only spent time in the country on one occasion, the experience has stayed with me.  It permeates my being in a way; so much so that Costa Rica inspired me to set my latest novel, Pura Vida, there.  Before going there, I sensed that this little island was a spiritual portal; all of this was confirmed when I visited the island.  Now, I am at a time in my life where I feel called to return to Costa Rica. A Funny Thing Happened…

I have always found it interesting how my life has led me to this current stage of life.  I grew up in a small town in Iowa that was settled on the Mississippi River.  Life in Iowa was consistently non-eventful; the people were hard-working, kind and not demonstrative in the least.  From a very young age I felt a burning desire to become a stand-up comedy.  Almost everyone told me that my dream wasn’t possible.  Although I never took anyone’s doubt seriously, I always considered it strange that people didn’t think it was possible for me, or anyone for that
